JBL restructuring & impact on vintage Altec

JBL is going through some painful restructuring that is impacting employees, customers, service centers, etc. These include:

• Closing their consumer division in NJ
• Ceasing production of vintage OEM re-cone and diaphragm kits
• Closing their professional manufacturing plant in California and moving it to China

So my question is this; will these moves by JBL/Harman make vintage Altec systems more desirable in the market place since these are now the only "Lansing" drivers that can be restored to factory specs using GPA coponents?

This is intended to be a serious question; I consider myself a collector.

My guess is not right away. There is bound to be a lot of JBL stock out there...... in fact wasn't the the announcement of parts discontinuation a few years ago, but never enacted?

A friend of mine got laid off at Mark Levinson (another Harmon company) earlier this year.

My opinion is no effect.

I think it may drop JBL value but isn't going to affect Altec stuff at all.

Frankly computer aided machinery would allow a third party to develop replacement parts, with enough demand that might happen.

If I got an opportunity to get old JBL kits cheap I might buy them and sit on them...
